Sir:-
In my Note of June 8th, last I had the honour to
inform you that, in view of the representations made in
your Note of May 23rd. last, the Secretary of State for
the Colonies would be requested to warn the Government
of Hongkong of the necessity for the utmost vigilance
being shown at present to prevent the importation into
China of arms and ammunition from the Colony.
I am now in a position to inform you that in addi-
tion to strictly enforcing the existing Regulations for
the prevention of the export of arms and munitions of
war into China, the following measures have been taken
by the Government of Hongkong.
(a) A copy of the export permit (which shows the
name of the vessel by which the export is made and the
port of destination) is now furnished, in all cases in
which export is permitted, to the Commissioner of the
Imperial Maritime Customs residing in Hongkong.
